Andy Dalton is trending online following the Saints’ signing of Derek Carr. The veteran quarterback started 14 games for New Orleans last season.
Now, he’ll presumably be pushed back into the reserve role seen the two years prior. Many online are questioning whether or not the team will be better off with Dalton on the bench, though.
Dalton led New Orleans to a 6-8 record over his 14 starts, good for a third-place finish in the NFC South. He threw 18 touchdowns to nine interceptions while averaging over 200 yards a game.
While the performance wasn’t terrible, it certainly didn’t blow viewers away either. The signing of Carr signals a change under center as the Saints hope to get back into Super Bowl contention.
Carr is undoubtedly an upgrade given his age and past performance, but he’s also coming off of a letdown season. In fact, he was benched before the year ended as the Raiders finished just 6-11.
Carr’s now thrown 14 picks in back-to-back seasons, and he’s only posted winning records in two of his nine professional campaigns. With that being said, there are many are questioning whether the change at quarterback will make the Saints a playoff contender.
Now, obviously, some were overjoyed with the addition of Derek Carr. At least it shows that New Orleans is trying to improve the roster.

Many, though, don’t expect to see much difference between Dalton and Carr’s production. Take a look at some of the reactions online.

The Saints already had a Derek Carr.
His name is Andy Dalton.

The stats might back that notion up. There wasn’t much difference in their performance last season.

Someone went as far as to call Derek Carr, “West Coast Andy Dalton.”
Saints bring in West Coast Andy Dalton for more money when they could’ve just re-signed current Andy Dalton 🤷🏿♂️

We’ll see if the move pays off for New Orleans.
