Being a professional athlete tends to be a bit of a cheat code when it comes to finding a romantic partner, but it doesn’t mean you’re immune to rejection. That would appear to be a lesson that one of the best tennis players on the planet learned the hard way based on what fellow pro Anna Kalinskaya had to say while putting him on blast for shooting his shot a bit too hard.

There are plenty of factors people take into consideration when they’re deciding who to date. Every single person has their own set of priorities, but being an incredibly fit individual who makes millions of dollars a year usually isn’t going to hurt your prospects if you’re on the market.

As a result, professional athletes tend to do pretty well for themselves in that particular realm, and guys who play a sport for a living typically aren’t hurting when it comes to attracting women who are interested in them. However, it’s still possible to find yourself going in the wrong direction on a one-way street, which is apparently the fate one Danish tennis player met while trying to woo a Russian pro who wasn’t afraid to spill a little tea.

Anna Kalinskaya called out Holger Rule for being a player who wouldn’t stop messaging her

Anna Kalinskaya has spent the past few years slowly but surely making her way up the tennis world rankings, and the 26-year-old (who is currently in search of her first WTA singles title) is currently sitting at #32 after peaking at #11 last October.

Denmark’s Holger Rune has also done pretty well for himself since turning pro in 2020, as he currently occupies the 12th spot in the ATP standings and became the highest-ranking player his country has ever produced after rising to #4 in 2023.

Kalinskaya recently sat down for an interview with First&Red where Rune saw his name mentioned for a less than ideal reason, as she fielded a question about how frequently other tennis players try to get her to go out on a date and was more than happy to point the finger at him when asked to elaborate about a particular “desparate” suitor she had to deal with.

Here’s what she had to say:

“Someone wrote 10 times and then gave up: Holger Rune.

He writes to everyone. He deserves all of this. He thinks too much of himself. Maybe he’s just that hopeless—but he’s not the only one.”

Ouch.
