A number of standout players are slated to enter free agency once this year’s NBA season wraps up and there’s no doubt we’re going to see some fierce battles once the likes of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving hit the market.
However, I don’t know if there’s any player in the final year of their contract who’s more sought after than Anthony Davis, who set the internet on fire on Monday when he revealed he’d like to get the hell out of New Orleans as soon as possible.
Agent Rich Paul has notified the New Orleans Pelicans that All-NBA forward Anthony Davis has no intention of signing a contract extension if and when presented and that he has requested a trade, Paul told ESPN on Monday.

I’ve had trouble keeping up with all of the rumors that have flown in the wake of his announcement, and despite the best efforts of the Celtics, it appears the Lakers are currently the frontrunners to land the superstar— which may have something to do with the questionable recruiting tactics of LeBron James.
Based on their current roster, the Lakers already have plenty of incentive to add Davis to their squad, but if a new report by Wojnarowski is to be believed, they might be in a position to become the NBA’s next superteam thanks to Klay Thompson.
According to Bleacher Report, Woj appeared on SportsCenter on Monday and hinted Thompson might defect from the Warriors when his contract expires to join forces with Davis and LeBron in Los Angeles:
[T]he Golden State Warriors sharpshooter—who can become an unrestricted free agent following this season—would be interested in joining the Purple and Gold if the Warriors didn’t offer him a max contract and L.A. traded for Davis and opened a contract slot close to his max.
This summer can’t come soon enough.
