Saturday night saw another installment of one of college football’s best rivalries, the Backyard Brawl between Pitt and West Virginia. And, after a terrible performance by Pitt quarterback Phil Jurkovec that helped West Virginia beat Pitt, 17-6, Mountaineers defensive back Beanie Bishop gave a hilarious quote about just how bad Jurkovec was.
The beauty of this trash talk is in its simplicity, and it’s a line that will live in the lore of the rivalry for a long time, I’m sure.
One of the greatest Backyard Brawl quotes of all time. The pitt QB Phil Jurkovec is absolutely horrible, but it's hilarious hearing Beanie Bishop say it during the postgame! 🤣🤣🤣 "We knew coming into the game their quarterback wasn't good at his job." pic.twitter.com/jbZ7Faqg4P

Ouch. That’s some good, G-rated trash talk. And, it was deserved. The West Virginia defense shut down Pitt’s passing attack in the backyard brawl.
Jurkovec, a former highly-touted recruit out of suburban Pittsburgh for Notre Dame, transferred to Boston College after two years in South Bend. He spent three up-and-down years in Chestnut Hill before transferring back home to play for Panther head coach Pat Narduzzi for his sixth and final year of college football.
But, he’s been downright terrible so far for Pitt, and was truly awful last night. Phil Jurkovec was a stunning 8/20 for 81 yards and three interceptions, while adding 35 yards from 11 carries on the ground. That is a college efficiency rating of 44, and an NFL passer rating of 12.

Yeah, not good. This comes a week after he was just 10/32 for Cincinnati in a loss.
Not good for Pitt, but West Virginia fans were enjoying the spoils of their Backyard Brawl win and Beanie Bishop’s quip.
This is gold. He's trying so hard to politely say "we know he sucks" lmao

But, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi still has the utmost confidence in his quarterback, for reasons unbeknownst to anyone else.
Narduzzi said there was no consideration to change quarterbacks this evening. He said he has to watch the tape, but believes Phil Jurkovec will start under center next week against North Carolina.

The win by West Virginia may have saved head coach Neal Brown’s job. He should send Phil Jurkovec a gift basket.
