As the NFL quarterback carousel continues to turn, Baker Mayfield does not have a home. The Cleveland Browns quarterback, who is currently QB3 behind Deshaun Watson and Jacoby Brissett, wants to be traded.
But nobody wants to trade for him, at least for now.
The Indianapolis Colts traded for Matt Ryan, the Saints brought back Jameis Winston and the Falcons signed Marcus Mariota. That leaves two main teams that might be looking for a new signal-caller.
- Carolina Panthers
- Seattle Seahawks
Earlier this afternoon, rumors began to circulate about the idea of Mayfield heading to Carolina. Per Will Kunkel of Fox Charlotte, that is not going to happen right now.
The Carolina Panthers are not interested in trading for Baker Mayfield.
Despite twitter reports:
I'm told the Panthers are still NOT interested in Baker Mayfield.— Will Kunkel (@WillKunkelFOX) March 21, 2022
As of this moment, Carolina has Sam Darnold on the roster at quarterback. He is the presumed incumbent at the position.
However, Darnold may be soon be replaced as QB1 if the team chooses to bring another quarterback onto the roster. The former USC Trojans signal-caller struggled last season and has not quite panned out during his relatively young NFL career.
Many people hypothesized that Mayfield may be the guy to replace him, or at least compete with him for the starting job. According to Kunkel, that will not be happening.
The Falcons could remain in the mix, even after signing Mariota. In addition, the Seahawks could be looking for someone to play the position ahead of or alongside Drew Lock.
Wherever he is to end up, it does not seem like Mayfield will be traded to Carolina anytime soon. That, of course, is subject to change, but the Panthers’ GM, QBs coach and head coach were all in attendance at Kenny Pickett’s Pro Day so they might have a younger, fresher guy in mind.
