Bengals Players Blast Anthony Richardson During Joint Practice With Colts

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson missed most of his rookie season last year with an injury, but he showed real flashes early in the season when healthy. Apparently, those flashes were absent at practice on Tuesday

Richardson and his Indianapolis teammates held a joint practice with the Cincinnati Bengals. Afterward, Bengals defensive players were thoroughly unimpressed with Anthony Richardson following his performance at practice.

NFL teams often do joint practices during the preseason to give their guys looks against other teams’ starting units that are in a more controlled environment than a preseason game. You can quickly infer the benefits.

On Tuesday, the two teams held a joint practice, with the Bengals defense getting the better of the Colts offense early on. According to an article in the Indianapolis Star, Bengals players had some things to say about the 2023 4th-overall pick who has a habit of taking off with the ball quicker than he probably should.

“He’s just throwing to spots,” Bengals safety Geno Stone yelled out after the ball hit the grass. “He doesn’t see his receivers.”

Throw the ball, bro,” Bengals defensive tackle B.J. Hill yelled at Richardson after one short scramble.

“Is that all he does is run?” cornerback Cam Britt-Taylor said.

Overall, it seemed like it was not a good practice for the Colts offense, and Richardson was even picked off by the Cincinnati Bengals. But, it’s important to note that it is just practice.

Last year, Richardson, who has only started 17 games past high school, started in four games for the Colts, throwing for 577 yards and 3 touchdowns against 1 interception while running for 136 yards and four touchdowns. A sprained AC joint in October ended his season, but at just having turned 22, there’s so much potential still there for Anthony Richardson.

That being said, it may not have been on display at Tuesday’s joint practice.
