Most of the storylines we’ve encountered over the course of this year’s NFL offseason have been largely overshadowed by the one concerning whether or not there will even be a season in the first place. However, the world is already overflowing with pessimism so I’m going to try to cancel it out by focusing on the bright side for a change.
Even if the NFL manages to avoid suffering the same fate as Major League Baseball, there’s a good chance you’ll either have no desire to go to a game this year or not have the opportunity to attend one even if you want to. As a result, you’ll likely have to settle for supporting your team from the couch and there’s no better way to get in the gameday spirit than rocking a fresh NFL jersey.
Some of the biggest names in the NFL right now weren’t as prestigious at this time last year, others were on another team (or not on a team at all), and there are also some fresh new faces coming off of some impressive college careers, so let’s take a look at the best NFL jerseys fans should consider adding to their collection in 2020.
1. Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes has taken the NFL by storm since he became the savior of Kansas City by replacing Alex Smith in the pocket a couple of years ago, as he helped lead the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game in his first season as a starter and bounced back from a loss in that contest by helping the franchise secure its first Super Bowl victory in 50 years.
Oh, he’s also 23 years old and just signed a massive deal that’ll keep him in Kansas City for at least another decade barring any unforeseen developments, meaning this is probably one of the best long-term investments you can make as far as jerseys are concerned.
2. Tom Brady

I doubt there were many people who were scrambling to buy Brady’s jersey when he was selected with the 199th pick in the NFL Draft in 2000 but anyone who did reaped the same kind of return you would’ve gotten if you’d scooped up some Amazon stock at the same point in time (well, without all of the money, but you get what I’m going for).
Tom Brady’s future was the hottest topic of discussion heading into the offseason, and even though it was clear he was no longer as happy as he once was in New England, it was hard not to be shocked when he announced he’d be taking his talents to Tampa Bay. 3. Rob Gronkowski

Rob Gronkowski is one of the most colorful personalities to ever play in the NFL, and while it was easy to understand why he decided to retire when you consider the toll football took on his body during the nine seasons he spent as one of Brady’s favorite targets in New England, it still hurt to see him go.
However, no one thought he was really hanging up his cleats for good, and if he was genuinely worried about the effects of CTE, he probably wouldn’t have almost immediately pivoted to a new career in professional wrestling. As a result, it was a pleasant surprise to learn he’d decided to rejoin forces with Tommy Touchdowns in the Sunshine State (and it made sense, as I feel like watching Gronk playing football without TB12 telling him what to do would be like watching a black lab go duck hunting by itself).
When you consider I’ve already described Gronk as “colorful,” the red jersey might make more sense here but I feel like the alternate gives off some WWE vibes that are pretty fitting.
4. Cam Newton

Every Patriots fan knew that the Brady Era was going to come to an end at some point despite the quarterback’s absurd ability to defy time but I don’t think many of them thought it would come in the form of him defecting to another team. With that said, they couldn’t really be mad at him after everything he achieved during his 20 seasons in New England, and after processing the inevitable, it was time to look toward the future.
It initially appeared that future involved the Patriots turning to Jarrett Stidham to fill at least some portion of the massive void Brady left behind until Bill Belichick dug into his back of tricks and pulled out Cam Newton, who will be leading the charge this season if the Patriots have enough people to field a full team depending on how many players opt out when everything is said and done.
If you’re going to get a jersey to support the NFL’s preeminent fashionista, I feel like you have to go with the red as opposed to the more traditional options. That seems like something Cam would want you to do.
5. Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson impressed fans with both his passing and rushing ability last year while establishing himself as one of the most agile and dynamic quarterbacks the league has seen since Michael Vick. There’s no indication he enjoys making animals fight to the death in his free time, so when you consider he’s the reigning MVP at the age of 23, he’s got the chance to leave quite a legacy behind.
In addition to being blessed with an insane amount of talent, he’s lucky enough to play on the Ravens and rock the purple and black look that might be my favorite color scheme in the NFL. Luckily, you don’t have to have a spot on the roster to do the same.
6. Joe Burrow

After leading LSU to a national championship last year, adding the Heisman Trophy to his résumé, and getting scooped up with the pick in the draft that everyone assumed was reserved for Tua Tagovailoa heading into the season, Joe Burrow is currently the hottest new commodity in the NFL.
He still has plenty to prove but there’s no doubt Cincinnati is already thrilled to have him, as fans now have some incentive to buy a Bengals jersey for the first time since Ochocinco left a decade ago.
7. Tua Tagovailoa

As I mentioned above, it was a foregone conclusion that Tua Tagovailoa was going to be the first overall pick in this year’s draft heading into the most recent college football season, as he’d been surrounded by an insane amount of hype since his heroic performance in the second half of Alabama’s national championship victory during his freshman year in 2017.
The Dolphins were also under that impression and it was widely believed the team made preparations to tank in order to get their hands on a guy who has all of the makings of a franchise quarterback. If that was indeed the plan, they executed it in the most Dolphins way possible, as they managed to be bad at being actively bad and ended the season with the fifth pick.
However, Tagovailoa saw his draft stock drop after suffering a brutal injury, and when everything was said and done, he was still on the board when it was time for Miami to pick in the first round. Shooting his shot with Shania Twain is worth picking up his jersey this year alone.
8. Saquon Barkley

After putting on a beastly performance during his three years at Penn State, Saquon Barkley has been dominating the NFL as a top running back for the New York Giants, smashing franchise and league records left and right.
He’s also known for his insane physical fitness and strength, and you’ve probably seen the videos of him jumping straight out of pools and other truly inhuman acts. If you’re looking for a great Halloween costume this year, all you need to do is grab this jersey and then figure out a way to make your legs look like literal tree trunks. You can thank me later.
9. Russell Wilson
Fanatics
A lot of people hate on Russell Wilson for being corny but I personally think he’s one of the most likable guys in the NFL. The seven-time Pro Bowler has achieved plenty of things on the field but he’s also known for the charitable work he’s done off of it and just comes across as an incredibly cool and genuine dude. I’m convinced anyone who doesn’t like him is just jealous that he’s married to Ciara and they’re not.
Wilson is the kind of guy I just feel kind of good throwing my support behind and the fact that the Seahawks’ color scheme is so much cooler than it has any right to be only makes that decision easier.
10. Joey Bosa

Joey Bosa is a dominant young defensive end and just signed a huge five-year, $135 million contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. He’s a fantastic player, but if I’m being honest, he really made the cut because there was no way I was going to make a list that didn’t include the new jerseys his team will be wearing this year.
I mean, just look at those. You could throw some random Wingdings on the nameplate and put an upside-down question mark where the number is supposed to go and I’d still buy it. Actually, I might want that even more. I’m going to have to look into whether or not you can do that, but if not, this is a solid alternative.
