Bo Nix is more than willing to check Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton. He presents a stark contrast to Russell Wilson.

The question is whether that is a good thing or a bad thing and the answer depends on who you ask.

Some fans and analysts think this new generation of NFL players are selfish and can’t be coached. Others think it shows a mutual respect.

Sean Payton hated Russell Wilson.

Wilson spent two years with the Broncos. They went 4-11 in 2022 and 7-8 in 2023.

The lasting legacy of his brief tenure with Denver was “lets ride.”

Payton only coached Wilson in 2023. He absolutely hated him.

“That was misery, sorrow, drudgery — give me some other adjectives — just, that was brutal,” the Super Bowl champion head coach said of his lone season with the Super Bowl champion quarterback.

The former had enough of the latter come December of that season. Payton tore Wilson a new one during a heated interaction that immediately went viral for all of the wrong reasons.

Offensive lineman Mike McGlinchey said the entire interaction was blown out of proportion.

“Mistakes happen, and people get emotional — especially when you’re getting your ass kicked,” he said. “So, I wouldn’t think anything of that. And nobody in this locker room does.”

Sean Payton tried to blame the heated interaction with Russell Wilson on an offside penalty and refused to provide further explanation.

“Listen, what I talk to Russell about is none of your business,” the head coach said curtly during his postgame press conference.

He later tried to downplay what happened.

“Nothing more to share,” Payton said on that following Monday. “It certainly, you know, in-game intensity, heat of the moment, all of those things. But nothing more to add.”

Payton did not address the matter with the team nor Wilson because there was nothing to address. He and Wilson had a “great relationship.”

But we all saw what we saw… We all heard what he said after Wilson was gone…

Bo Nix talks back.

The Broncos selected Nix with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. It was a bit of a surprise.

However, Denver won 10 games and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2015 in his rookie year. Nix completed 66% of his passes for 3,775 yards and 29 touchdowns (with 12 interceptions) and ran for 430 yards and four touchdowns on 92 attempts. His tape was just as good as his numbers.

Unlike Payton and Wilson, Payton and Nix actually have a great relationship.

That does not mean they are exempt from in-fighting. Families bicker. Players bicker. Coaches bicker.

We saw it happen for the first time last October when Bo Nix screamed at Sean Payton.

We saw a similar exchange on Sunday.

Social media immediately jumped all over Nix and the “younger generation” of NFL players.

“Generation Me has entered the NFL. Accountability? Who, me?,” wrote @CKDaley.

“what is with these Qbs, this is a reflection of society. NO more respect for our elders or leaders
another example of the rot of the education system,” chimed @AdlerJoelle.

“Who does Bo nix think he is,” asked @bmaccc777.

“This is why Nick Saban could not handle today’s NFL. Players are not intimidated by their coaches anymore,” @CKLions added.

You get the idea. Gen X is disrespectful. They don’t take accountability. Blah blah blah.

These people don’t know what they’re talking about.

Drew Brees offered words of advice about his former head coach. Payton is going to be demanding with his quarterback. The quarterback needs to be equally as demanding toward his head coach.

Russell Wilson just stood there and took it. Bo Nix expects mutual respect and intensity.
