Oklahoma and Miami (FL) are two of the most storied college football programs ever. But, that wasn’t on display last year, as first-year head coaches Brent Venables and Mario Cristobal, respectively, struggled at each school.
Miami was a wildly disappointing 5-7, with embarrassing losses to Middle Tennessee State and Duke, a humiliating 45-3 loss to rival Florida State and a 40-10 loss to Clemson. It was coach Mario Cristobal’s first year back at his alma mater, and the program hasn’t been a hallmark of consistency, but it was still a shockingly poor season nonetheless.
That same thing can be said about Brent Venables and The Oklahoma Sooners. They finished a lousy 6-7, with the lowlight being a shocking 49-0 loss to Texas. Unlike Miami, though, Oklahoma lost quite a few close games, with five of their seven losses coming by one score.
Now, If I were a coach that went 6-7 last year, I would not be talking trash about basically any other program. But, nobody told Brent Venables that. He took a shot at Miami and Mario Cristobal, saying that there are different ways to stink, basically. Take a look.

“There’s lots of ways you can be 6-7, none of its any good. Right? But, had we been, had we gotten blown out by a Middle Tenessee. Had we gotten beat by a Florida State 45-3, the conversation is probably a little different.”
Wait, what? You can’t say that, Brent Venables! What an entirely unhinged thing to say.
