The 2022 season for the Denver Broncos and new quarterback Russell Wilson was miserable. The offense finished dead last in points scored, and watching them play was an abysmal experience.
That got Head Coach Nathaniel Hackett fired before the season was even over, and set off what was a wild coaching search. But, ultimately, they got their man.
That man would be Sean Peyton. The former longtime Saints coach and Super Bowl champion agreed to a contract worth a reported salary of upwards of $20 million annually.
Peyton is not hiring a traditional offensive coordinator for the Broncos, but former Chargers assistant Joe Lombardi will take over many of those duties.
But, on Thursday, it was the new hire at quarterback coach that raised eyebrows, as the team is hiring former Giants quarterback Davis Webb.
NFL veteran QB Davis Webb, who spent last season backing up Daniel Jones, is being hired as the Broncos’ QB coach, per sources. The 28-year-old Webb now will be coaching the 34-year-old Russell Wilson in his first NFL coaching job.

Wow, the headliner there is that Webb is just 28 years old. Now, having a coach younger than some of the players has become more commonplace in the NFL with young coaches such as Sean McVay. But, this will be a weird dynamic as a position coach who has had much less NFL success than Wilson has, and it could torpedo another Broncos season.
Webb played in one NFL regular season game in his career, this year for the Giants. He was 23/40 for 168 yards and a touchdown and added 41 yards on 6 carries with a score on the ground in a week 16 loss against the Eagles.
On the other hand, Wilson has over 40,000 yards and 300 touchdowns passing.
Hopefully, for Broncos fans, it will work out.
