It took long enough to become official, but Caleb Williams followed Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma to USC. It would have been a total shock to see Williams not take his talents to Los Angeles after putting his name in the transfer portal, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t at least have other schools in mind when coming to a decision.
With Williams being one of the best players in all of college football, people could have assumed he may have at least considered taking a look at Alabama. His dad, however, wasn’t going to let that happen.
Caleb Williams’ Dad Was Against Alabama
Williams recently appeared on Good Morning America and talked about the transfer process and coming to the decision of becoming a Trojan. He made it clear that his father didn’t want him to go to Alabama, not when he was choosing colleges out of high school or during his transfer process.
“About 10 years ago, my dad actually told me to make a list of schools that I wanted to go to and he said you can’t have Alabama on there,” Williams explained. “So, I ended up choosing schools like the West Coast schools out here. First was USC. Dreams do come true. Obviously, I had coach Riley and everybody else that came over from Oklahoma here.”
Williams didn’t go into detail about why his dad was so adamant about him not going to Bama, but it’s certainly an interesting note.
The Washington D.C. native could have certainly competed for the starting quarterback position in Tuscaloosa. Maybe his father knew just how special Bryce Young was going to be under center and didn’t want to see his son compete with him.
