Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley has been suspended by the NFL for the 2022 season, and maybe more.
The pass catcher admitted to gambling on NFL games last year as he sat on the sidelines. Ridley stepped away from the team in November in an attempt to get treatment for mental health issues.
Apparently, the treatment was not all that Ridley was doing with his down time.
Making things worse, the wideout was apparently betting on his own team’s performance, which may not have been the smartest option considering Atlanta’s seven-win output. He’s reported to have placed wagers on the Falcons as part of multiple parlays.
One can only assume that those probably didn’t hit.
NFL determined that Calvin Ridley placed multi-legged parlay bets involving 3, 5 and 8 games that included the Falcons to win, per source. Investigation determined there was no involvement from any team players, coach etc. placed via his mobile device out of state.

With the news breaking on social media, Ridley has taken to Twitter in defense of his actions. While he has admitted that what he did was wrong, he really doesn’t seem too concerned about the consequences.
Calvin Ridley Responds To Suspension On Social Media
Ridley, who’d Tweeted just once since last November, broke his social media silence earlier this week.
It seems he’s known that this suspension was in the works.
On March 4, the wide receiver posted two Tweets. One had just the “crying laughing” emoji while the other had the caption, “football is life.”

Yesterday, he hopped back on the mobile app to seemingly take accountability for his actions with a post reading, “I learn from my Ls.”

But after today’s media got hold of the story, Ridley went all in with a barrage of responses that give the impression that he really doesn’t care about the suspension.
I bet 1500 total I don’t have a gambling problem

I couldn’t even watch football at that point

Ridley notes that bet just $1,500 on games last year, and that he had a hard time even watching football at that point in time while dealing with other off-the-field issues.
The best response, though, has to be his saying, “I know I was wrong but I’m getting 1 year lol.”
He follows it up by tweeting, “Just gone be more healthy when I come back.”
At least he’s looking at the bright side. The suspension will cost the wideout millions next year and there’s still not been a return date set.
He’s lost much more than $1,500 with these actions.
