In 2019, Carli Lloyd showed off her impressive leg when she drilled a lengthy field goal while visiting Eagles training camp, and the soccer star apparently impressed some NFL teams to the point where she almost had the chance to play a different kind of football.
Carli Lloyd amassed a very impressive résumé while playing more than 300 games for the United States women’s national soccer team.
By the time she retired in 2021, the midfielder had secured two gold medals at the Olympics and a couple of World Cup titles, and she earned FIFA World Player of the Year honors thanks in part to her performance in the tournament in 2015.
Five years ago, Lloyd got the chance to spend the day with the Philadelphia Eagles at training camp in the wake of her second World Cup victory, and she turned plenty of heads thanks to the kicking skills that helped her split the uprights while drilling a 55-yard field goal with ease.

At least one NFL team reportedly contacted Lloyd about suiting up for a preseason game that year, and while that didn’t end up happening, she said she was genuinely interested in attempting to earn a spot on a roster in 2020.
That also failed to come to fruition, but during a recent appearance on Up & Adams, Lloyd confirmed she did have multiple NFL suitors who were seemingly very intrigued by the idea of signing her.

Here’s what she had to say:
“It was pretty serious with a couple of teams.
It worked out the way that it was supposed to work out and that’s all that matters, but it was a cool experience—even to just show young girls and women around the world that anything is possible.
I think if there’s one position in the NFL, a kicker would be a possible position—not to say you wouldn’t have big men running at you if your kick is blocked. It was a good experience, but it’s done and dusted.”
Kay Adams did what she could to get Lloyd to reveal the two teams in question, but it unfortunately sounds like that’s a mystery that may never be solved.
