Carlos Correa is once again a member of the Minnesota Twins! Almost. Kind of.
Correa’s free agency saga is one for the MLB history books.
The two-time MLB All-Star signed with the Twins last winter on a three-year, $105.3 million deal with opt outs after each year. He settled on the short-term deal after the long-term deal he was seeking never surfaced.
Correa then went out and hit .291 with 22 home runs and 64 RBIs in 136 games, yet again proving he’s one of the games elite short stops. He opted out of the deal with Minnesota following the season and once again tested free agency.
The Twins reportedly offered Correa a 10-year, $285 million deal which he turned down before coming to a 13-year, $350 agreement with the San Francisco Giants.
That was seemingly that, until it wasn’t. The Giants were all set to announce Correa as their marquee signing before concerns during his medical testing killed the deal.
That’s when Steve Cohen and the New York Mets struck, seemingly agreeing to a 12-year, $315 million deal that would see Correa move to third base next to friend and Puerto Rican countryman Francisco Lindor.
But again, the deal fell apart after Correa’s physical led to concerns from the Mets. The two sides worked for weeks to come to a new agreement, but now it appears that was all for naught.
Carlos Correa Agrees To Deal With Minnesota Twins, Pending Physical
The Mets’ failure to come to a deal with Correa brought a familiar face, the Twins, back into the fold.
Minnesota seized its opportunity on Tuesday, agreeing to a six-year, $200 million deal with Correa according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
BREAKING: Shortstop Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are finalizing a six-year, $200 million contract, sources tell ESPN. The deal has a vesting option that can max out at $270 million. It is pending physical.

Passan states that the deal could max out at up to $270 million for Correa. But it’s his last two words, “pending physical,” that had fans making jokes.

Correa may have finally found his long-term home after a long and winding road. Or this may just be another turn in an absolutely hilarious series of events.
