There are a number of people out there who are lucky enough to get to talk about sports for a living, and if that happens to be your profession, common knowledge dictates you’d do a fair amount of research so you actually know what you’re talking about.
However, as Stephen A. Smith has repeatedly shown us, that isn’t always the case. While a broken clock is right a couple of times a day, ESPN’s most insufferable talking head has repeatedly proven he’s absolutely clueless when it comes to certain topics—especially pertaining to football.
As my colleague Doug pointed out a few weeks ago, Smith seems to have virtually no knowledge of the NFL and has repeatedly made a number of gaffes—including the time he forgot Drew Brees exists, completely ignored the fact that Kareem Hunt was suspended, and just straight up botched his analysis of a matchup between the Chiefs and the Chargers.
However, it turns out Smith isn’t the only professional analyst who doesn’t pay attention to football despite being paid to talk about football for a living.
Last week, NFL Network’s Charley Casserly ruffled some jimmies when he issued a spicy take suggesting more than a few teams weren’t a fan of touted prospect Kyler Murray.

Lincoln Riley rebuked the accusations and Casserly backtracked almost immediately but that gaffe was only the beginning of a long week.
On Monday, Casserly turned his attention to the Dallas Cowboys when he claimed their underwhelming season could be partially blamed on the team’s tendency to throw to Dez Bryant too much.

However, as Awful Announcing notes, there’s a slight problem with his argument:
[T]he Cowboys cut Bryant last April, and he didn’t wind up playing an NFL game all season. He signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints in November, but tore his Achilles tendon in practice two days later and missed the rest of the year.
Have I seen worse looks in my day? For sure. However, that doesn’t make this a good one.
