The Clemson baseball team is looking to book a ticket to the Super Regionals for the first time in over a decade. One infielder did his part in making that goal come to fruition on Sunday.
Having already won their first two contests of the opening Regional round, the Tigers faced off against instate foe Coastal Carolina with the Chanticleers’ season on the line.
Clemson made its presence felt very early on in the contest.
The Tigers scored in each of their first four at-bats to take a 5-1 lead, highlighted by a Jimmy Obertop home run.
WHAT A HIT! @jobertop_4 goes yard for the 20th time this season 👏

While the offense did its part in getting the Tigers off to a great start, it was the defense soon making headlines with an instant viral moment.
Clemson baseball player executes hidden ball trick
Coastal Carolina threatened to cut into that deficit, getting a man to third base in the top half of a frame. Third baseman Blake Wright then channeled his inner Tom Hanks with an acting performance for the ages!
After securing a relay throw, Wright faked a handoff to the pitcher on his way back to the infield clay. He then waited for his moment to pounce.
Patiently standing, ball in hand, he eyed the baserunner down before making his move. Unaware of the situation, the Coastal Carolina runner took a step off the base, and Wright quickly made the tag.
Crisis averted!

Fans were quick to comment.
“Houdini!”
“Give Blake Wright an Academy Award. A young Daniel Day-Lewis at third base.”
It’s been an exciting postseason for the Clemson baseball team thus far, as they won each of their first two Regional games in their final at-bat. They’ll look to continue the success with a trip to Omaha in the crosshairs!
