Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is one of the most reviled figures in college football by fans of all teams except his own. And, the college football world was loving it when his Tigers were absolutely humiliated by Duke, 28-7, in the season-opener for the two teams on Labor Day.
For the sake of integrity, I will admit that I am no fan of Dabo Swinney. But, like many others, it’s not because he’s won a lot of games. Rather, it’s because he comes off incredibly disingenuous.
Swinney once said that he would quit coaching if his players started getting paid, and said last December that his program was built on “God’s NIL”.
It’s especially funny, considering those statements, that this loss to perennial ACC doormat Duke was on Labor Day of all days, as the coach who makes $10 million a year but wants his players to make nothing didn’t have his guys ready to play.
Twitter was ruthless towards Swinney, who had multiple embarrassing moments during and after the game. Let’s take a look at a few of the highlights.
