Chatter of a potential suspension for free-agent running back Dalvin Cook have surfaced in league circles, according to Mike Florio of NBC’s ProFootballTalk.
On Thursday, Florio wrote: “Throughout his free agency, there has been chatter in league circles regarding hesitation arising from the possibility of a suspension.”
The speculations come in the wake of news regarding a settlement offer made by Cook for his 2021 Domestic Violence case.
The situation has added uncertainty to Cook’s off-field status and could impact the length of potential contracts offered to him before the upcoming season.
Cook has played the last two seasons on the Vikings while the case, which includes counterclaims by Cook for defamation, has been ongoing.
According to Rochelle Olson of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Cook reportedly offered his ex-girlfriend a substantial sum of $1 million in an attempt to absolve himself of any wrongdoing after an alleged physical assault incident.
The trial for the Domestic Violence case is scheduled for next year, making a suspension, if any, unlikely to take effect before the 2024 NFL season.
The NFL’s handling of off-field issues has garnered significant attention in recent years, with a strong emphasis on player conduct and accountability.
Dalvin Cook, known for his exceptional talent and contributions on the field, faces an uncertain future with this looming controversy.
The situation continues to develop, and fans will closely monitor for any updates from the NFL.
