It’s been close to a year since Conor McGregor has fought in the UFC. After defeating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 last November, he decided to try his hand at boxing in a bout with Floyd Mayweather that ended exactly how virtually everyone predicted.
There’s been plenty of speculation about McGregor’s next move, but if Dana White is to be believed, the Irishman will step into the Octagon before the end of 2017. White told TMZ Sports “We’re planning on it. He wants to and we want him to, so we’ll see what happens.”
McGregor has previously said he won’t come back to the UFC unless he’s allowed to be a co-promoter. If he does return, it’s likely he’ll fight interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson. The two would likely he would fight at UFC 219, which is scheduled for December 30th and currently has no one slotted to compete in the main event.
