There’s no doubt that the San Francisco 49ers got terribly unlucky with quarterback injuries all season long. The team played four different players at the position in meaningful snaps over the course of the year.
And, that came to a head in the NFC Championship Game. With Trey Lance lost for the year early in the season to a broken ankle, and Jimmy Garoppolo not quite ready to come back from a broken foot, they only had two active quarterbacks in rookie Brock Purdy and journeyman Josh Johnson.
Naturally, disaster struck. Brock Purdy left the game with what ended up being a torn UCL, and Josh Johnson, who wasn’t going to lead them to a win anyway, was concussed.
We all know what happened. Brock Purdy returned to the game for the 49ers, but he couldn’t throw the ball more than a few yards. And, they lost, 31-7.
The game was more or less a toss-up going into it, with the Eagles as a slight favorite. Obviously, when those injuries happened, San Francisco was drawing dead.
And, 49ers star receiver Deebo Samuel apparently thinks the Eagles would have had no chance to beat San Francisco if Purdy had stayed healthy.
"I don't think it would have been close."
Deebo Samuel tells @AdamSchein the #Niners would have beaten the #Eagles by double digits if Brock Purdy didn't get hurt.

I understand that he feels confident his team would have won, as they certainly could have. But, the Eagles were maybe the league’s best team all year and don’t deserve that kind of disrespect.
Give me a break. The amount of disrespect Eagles are getting is outrageous. Hope they are paying attention.

Not a good look, Deebo. The Eagles will be taking on the Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Sunday, while the 49ers watch from home.
