Deion Sanders, like other college football coaches, is currently in the process of navigating through the transfer portal window. The Colorado leader recently spoke on the difficulty he’s experienced in keeping his current roster intact.
The Buffs are set to lose first round talent in the NFL Draft with the departures of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. That makes it imperative that Coach Prime not incur additional losses in the portal, too.
Sanders has used the transfer portal more than any other coach in the sport. When he arrived in Boulder, he encouraged a number of Colorado players to transfer as he planned on bringing his own “Louis Vuitton luggage” with him. He’s since signed 95 transfers over his last two offseasons.
He expects to use the portal again this winter. With that being said, he doesn’t agree with everything surrounding this new recruiting process. The introduction of NIL has made player payment legal. With that comes agents looking to get their cut.
Please understand who u are & stop placing yourself into situations that won’t allow u to succeed. You only lose because of the choices you’ve made & folks you’ve chose as well. Come on man. Those choices won’t allow u to win or have Peace. You’ve got to know u. #CoacPrime

Deion Sanders spoke on representation not always having the best intentions in their dealings. Some agents would rather make a quick buck than find the best landing spot for their client.
This week, he referenced a recent transfer decision made by linebacker Jeremiah Brown. He says the defender was being wrongfully influenced to leave his current situation.
I asked Deion Sanders about LB Jeremiah Brown, who withdrew from the portal yesterday: “I’m happy … he’s like my kid.
“He calls me about everything else … and he didn’t call me for that so I knew he was being influenced by something else.”

Brown is a senior with one year left to play. He opted to redshirt in 2024 after playing sparingly in four games. There’s reason to believe he was simply searching for a place to land a starting gig. Deion Sanders suggests that place can still be Colorado. He seems to have a plan to get Brown on the field.
The linebacker’s relationship with Coach Prime dates back to Jackson State. He racked up five sacks with the Tigers in ’22 but has seen a dip in usage with the Buffaloes. There is a chance for Brown to see the field more often in the ’25 campaign, though.
Colorado is thin at the position. Starter LaVonta Bentley played his final season of college football this past year. Teammates Trevor Woods and Nikhai Hill-Green, meanwhile, have hit the portal. Depth is an issue!
Jeremiah Brown’s return could ease concerns in Boulder just a bit. Deion Sanders is happy to see him staying put.
