Former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is signing with the New Orleans Saints, sources told ESPN’s Dianna Russini on Monday.
Carr appeared to confirm the news, tweeting Monday: “Who dat.”
The Saints, who finished 7-10 last season, were among three teams, including the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers, to have pursued Carr for several weeks.
It didn’t take long for Carr’s contract details to leak, and the numbers are insane.
According to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Carr is going to be paid over $37 million a year with nearly a $100 million in guarantees.
The #Saints & Derek Carr agreed on a 4-yr deal for $150M with $100M in total guarantees, per me & @MikeGarafolo. He gets $70M effectively fully guaranteed ($60M at signing, another $10M in Year 3 vesting after Year 1). Carr structures his deal to accommodate Saints’ cap issues. pic.twitter.com/vs6qaBh7rg

While Carr’s contract numbers are massive, here’s what he’s being paid compared to some other QBs in the league.
So, $37.5 million per year. Not bad. Reasonably priced.
Derek Carr — $37.5 million
Kirk Cousins — $35 million
Jared Goff — $33.5 million
Ryan Tannehill — $29.5 million https://t.co/KSVHcUhLWg— Nick Underhill (@nick_underhill) March 6, 2023
Not only did Carr get paid a ton of money by the Saints but he also has a no-trade clause in his contract.
Derek Carr received a no-trade clause from the #Saints as part of his new contract, source says. Same as he had with the #Raiders, which allowed him to control his future and his free-agent process.

Carr’s contract will also likely help Daniel Jones get over $40 million a year he’s asking for.
To be fair . With Daniel Jones age he probably worth a few million more a year than Derek Carr….. 40 mil per.
