Yankees pitcher Domingo German became the 24th player in MLB history to throw a perfect game on Wednesday, blanking the A’s in an 11-0 win. The performance was the first of its kind in over a decade with the last perfect game coming back in 2012.

In the contest, German struck out nine Oakland hitters over nine innings while not allowing a baserunner. Twenty-seven up and twenty-seven down, in order.

The outing represented the fourth perfect game in Yankees history, giving the franchise more than any other team in the MLB. Previous spotless starts include David Cone’s in 1999, David Wells’ a year earlier, and Don Larsen’s in the 1956 World Series.

Prior, New York had been tied with the Chicago White Sox at three. After Wednesday, they sit alone atop the standings.

German’s performance is good news for Yankees bettors as there’s been a surprising trend in each of those perfect game seasons. They’ve gone on to become world champions.

Cone and Wells were key pieces to those dominant Yankees teams of the late 1990s which one titles in ’96, ’98, ’99, and ’00. Larsen’s perfect game is still the only thrown in the postseason, and it helped New York edge the Dodgers in a seven-game series, 4-3.

The circumstances in German’s instance come with the Yanks sitting in third place in the AL East. At 44-36 on the year, the Bronx Bombers would be a Wildcard team if the season ended today.

At season’s start, the team was considered a World Series favorite at +600. Now, you can get the Yankees at twice the return.

This perfect game could be a sign to grab the Yankees while the price is low. We’ll see if they keep the streak going in 2023.
