Missouri head football coach Eli Drinkwitz is begging fans to show up for the Tigers’ season opener. He wants to see a packed house when the team takes on Murray State next Thursday night.

The pleas came off as embarrassing to a number of fellow SEC followers who took immediate shots at the program online. He made them an easy target!

The Tigers are fresh off their best season in recent memory after winning 11 games and beating Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. Drinkwitz has more in store for 2024.

Missouri returns starting signal caller Brady Cook, as well as his top target Luther Burden. The roster also added some monster talent in the transfer portal, headlined by All-American offensive lineman Cayden Green.

That production, along with a favorable schedule, have many pegging the Tigers as a potential College Football Playoff contender.

You might not know it by Eli Drinkwitz’s recent ask!

He took to the podium just over a week out from the season opener to beg fans to show up to Faurot Field.

“This screams you are still just Mizzou.”

Unfortunately, with that favorable schedule, opportunities to see big time matchups in CoMo are few and far between. The Missouri non-conference consists of Murray State, Boston College, UMass, and Buffalo while the program hosts just one team currently ranked in the Top 25 (Oklahoma).

The road slate is a bit more daunting with Alabama and Texas A&M, but overall, there’s much left to be desired from a fan perspective.

Missouri is currently ranked 11th in the AP preseason poll, and they should be favored more times than not when taking the field this fall. That said, there could be a few snoozers in the friendly confines, with the season opener topping the list!

We’ll see if fans answer Eli Drinkwitz’s call on Thursday night.
