Rookie phenom Elly De La Cruz smacked a 455-foot home run into the upper deck of Nationals Park on Wednesday, and fans are absolutely loving his reaction.
The third baseman took a moment to jab his opponent and the umpiring crew, who checked his bat in an earlier plate appearance. In fact, he was forced to remove a white object from the knob of his bat before finishing that first at-bat.
This, coming after Nationals’ manager Dave Martinez called for the crew to take a look.

De La Cruz would strike out in that second inning at-bat, but he’d certainly get the last laugh.
In the fifth frame, the infielder returned to the dish. Despite being forced to remove what many are calling a “tracking sensor cover” in that first AB, he was allowed to return his bat to original form for the remainder of action.
That sensor would come in handy as the switch-hitting slugger blasted a laser off the bat at over 110 MPH.

The 455-foot bomb put his team up 5-1. As De La Cruz left the batter’s box, he made sure to give his thoughts about the earlier bat check.
Turning to the home plate umpire, he pointed to the knob before flipping his bat and rounding the bases.

Fans absolutely loved the reaction.
One person wrote, “I loved him pointing at ‘the device.'”
Another follower commented, “This is ice cold.”
This social media user said, “Be careful if you poke the bear. You find out what happens every time.”
Through his first 26 games, Elly De La Cruz is hitting .318 with four home runs and 14 RBIs. He’s quickly becoming one of the most entertaining players in the MLB, and it’s easy to see why following this latest performance.
