Eric Church made waves in the college sports world by announcing that he’d be playing a concert to support the UNC NIL program. The country music star is an avid supporter of Tar Heel athletics, letting his fandom show at any chance possible.
He’s often been seen picking North Carolina on College GameDay in the fall, having made a number of appearances on the football pregame show. Hell, he even cancelled a concert to attend the historic Final Four matchup between UNC and Duke a couple years back, decked out in Carolina blue, of course.
There’s one fanbase that takes offense to his Tar Heel backing, though, and that’s in-state school Appalachian State.
That would be because Church graduated a Mountaineer in 2000. Many in Boone aren’t happy seeing him support the Heels over his alma mater, and they’re letting it be known on social media.

Regardless of how you feel about the situation, Eric Church’s show will benefit UNC’s Heels4Life collective in early August. Tickets can be purchased starting at $375 and ranging up to $1,500.
Tar Heels head football coach Mack Brown will be a special guest at the concert, which will be held at North Carolina’s Memorial Hall.
