A Marshall fan’s offensive shirt forced ESPN to cut its broadcast during a game between the Thundering Herd and James Madison. Clips of the mid-air mishap are now going viral on social media.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen a situation like this.
NBC hilariously cut away from an Amon-Ra St. Brown “thrusting” celebration earlier this year. We also saw a network cut the audio during a game between Pittsburgh and West Virginia as fans loudly chanted “Eat S— Pitt!”
On Thursday, cameras panned to a Thundering Herd supporter standing up and yelling before a big third down.

It looked like your typical college football scene until you read the front of the man’s top. That Marshall fan’s shirt read, “Game F–‘ Day!”
After realizing what they were showing to viewers, the ESPN broadcast briefly went off air. Social media exploded with reaction with followers commenting on the obscene message.
Play-by-play guy: βOne thing to your advantage is your home crowd.β

“Did ESPN just try to not show that Marshall fan’s shirt or was that just me?”
“How did they let that get on screen?”
“It’s someone’s first game working the camera.”
“Just a tad late on the cutaway.”
The fan’s shirt has been the most entertaining part of a low scoring affair. At the time of this writing, James Madison leads Marshall by a score of 13-2.
The Thundering Herd supporter hopes to will his squad to a comeback victory. The home team is looking to hand its Conference USA rival its first loss of the season.
