In a recent assessment by ESPN football analysts, each NFL team roster was ranked from strongest to weakest for the upcoming 2023 season.
With the NFL currently in a lull period between post-draft minicamps and preseason training camps, it provided an opportune time to evaluate how each team built and maintained their rosters during the offseason.
The rankings were based on factors such as talent, age, and production of the players, while not considering the impact that coaching staffs can have on maximizing player potential.
Here’s the rankings:
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Buffalo Bills
- Miami Dolphins
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Dallas Cowboys
- Los Angeles Chargers
- San Francisco 49ers
- Cleveland Browns
- New York Jets
- Baltimore Ravens
- Seattle Seahawks
- Denver Broncos
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Jacksonville Jaguars
- Minnesota Vikings
- Detroit Lions
- New York Giants
- New Orleans Saints
- New England Patriots
- Las Vegas Raiders
- Chicago Bears
- Green Bay Packers
- Washington Commanders
- Carolina Panthers
- Atlanta Falcons
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Tennessee Titans
- Houston Texans
- Indianapolis Colts
- Los Angeles Rams
- Arizona Cardinals
As with any rankings, there were differing opinions from NFL fans who had their own ideas about the order, and some voiced their opinions loudly.
Laughable, even from a biased perspective the Colts roster is top 20 easily. We were dark horse candidates last year and have nearly all of the same core. #WhoRanksTheRankers https://t.co/6oXo4qfOmz

Look – I know we don’t have an established QB in this QB-driven league… but where else are they dinging us?
On paper, we have a top 5 defense. We have a VERY good WR trio. We have solid RB’s. I get we have questions at TE and on the O-line
…but come on man!!!!! https://t.co/yZni7SsYeM

They gave the Chargers, Dolphins and Cowboys before the 49ers? WTAF. Have they not watched football for 5 years? https://t.co/3Sytm4izOx

The inclusion of the Chiefs, Eagles, Bills, and Bengals in the top five seemed generally agreeable. Bengals fans might have hoped for a higher ranking than the Dolphins, but overall, excitement is building as fans eagerly await the start of the 2023 season.
As the NFL gears up for the 2023 season, teams will continue to refine their rosters through preseason training camps, further shaping the landscape of the league.
It remains to be seen how these rankings will hold up as the season progresses, but for now, fans can revel in the excitement and anticipation that comes with the approaching NFL action.
