Linebacker Patrick Queen was one of the more notable names on the NFL free agency market, but on Monday, it appeared he’d made a decision to sign with a new team. Online reports were being reposted by the likes of Marcus Spears and Jeremy Fowler claiming the former Baltimore Raven would be headed to Seattle.
Unfortunately, those ESPN personalities were left with egg on their faces after finding out they were duped by a fake social media account impersonating Adam Schefter.
Queen spent four seasons in Baltimore, racking up 454 tackles across 67 games with the franchise. This offseason, though, he decided to walk away from the organization that drafted him.
Immediately becoming one of the top defensive players on the open market, teams began vying for his signature in hopes of bolstering their respective rosters.
One of those teams was the Seahawks, who are looking to get back to the defensive dominance seen under the Legion of Boom. It appeared they’d landed their target when an online report from “Adam Schefter” began floating around social media.
A few ESPN personalities jumped the gun on reposting it as fact before checking the account handle.

While the account now reads, “Mike Macdonald SZN,” it had been temporarily changed to “Adam Schefter” as seen in screenshots captured byΒ Awful Announcing.
The fake was good enough to fool Spears and Fowler, who quickly deleted those posts, though Fowler did attempt to clear things up with a subsequent reply.
This is obviously a fake. Carry on. https://t.co/rEtB82zGPv

Spears had fun with the dupe, joking, “Died a slow death with the Fake Schefty account, I’ll be back soon.”

Patrick Queen actually signed with the Steelers.
After debunking the initial post, Spears and Co. correctly reported that the linebacker would be headed to division rival Pittsburgh. Having played on one side of the AFC North’s best rivalry, he’ll now become the Ravens’ enemy, signing a three-year deal with the Steelers.

Spears responded with a repost that read, “Well this is a great move! Reported by the real Schefty lol!!”
You can never be too careful when double checking those social media sources!
