Fans saw an interesting incident on Thursday night in Game 2 of the ALCS between the Yankees and Astros. A fan hopped onto the diamond, beelining for Houston infielder Jose Altuve.
It was certainly an unexpected scene as the Astros looked to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
Houston won the opener, 4-2, thanks to a strong outing from starting pitcher Justin Verlander. The flamethrower had 11 Ks in that performance, giving his team a leg up in the race to the World Series.
In Game 2, the Astros jumped out to a 3-0 lead before letting the Yankees get back in it with a pair of fourth inning runs. Lefty Framber Valdez struck out nine New York batters over seven innings.
The score would stay locked at 3-2 as the two teams entered the final frame. That’s when all hell broke loose.
A fan stormed onto the field in an attempt to hug Jose Altuve and get a selfie.

How he got close enough to even touch the Houston second baseman is mindboggling.
The scene was super odd and just cringe to watch. No one wants to see a grown man beg for a photo in the middle of a baseball game. A playoff game, at that.
It didn’t take too much time for the security crew to wrangle the fan and get him to the ground. After a few brief moments of restraint, the team got him cuffed.
Altuve handled it like a champ despite being visibly stunned by the fan’s failed selfie attempt. Folks were quick to react to the bizarre scene on social media.
One person commented, “How the hell did security let this dude get that close to Jose Altuve?” after seeing the clip.
Altuve’s calmness during the incident didn’t go unnoticed, with one fan joking, “Altuve just having a conversation with the guy is hilarious.”
This Twitter user took a shot at Altuve, who’s now 0-23 in the postseason, saying, “Maybe he was giving him hitting tips.”
Whatever the case, this fan probably shouldn’t try this again.
