Earlier today, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich confirmed that the team is for sale as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. While the decision itself isn’t particularly surprising with the United Kingdom imposing sanctions on Russian oligarchs, there was a surprising revelation that came with the announcement.
Conor McGregor claims that he is interested in purchasing the team. He tweeted as much shortly after Abramovich’s statement.

McGregor even followed that tweet up with one that contained a video of him as Chelsea’s owner on FIFA.

It’s unclear how realistic this ambition actually is. McGregor has in the past expressed a desire to own Manchester United. Abramovich also values Chelsea at 3 billion pounds, which is quite a bit more money than even the UFC has made on all of his fights.
Still, that hasn’t prevented fans all over the internet from chiming in with jokes about McGregor’s interest.

Conor McGregor being involved in the ownership of one of world football’s biggest clubs might not be realistic, but it would certainly be entertaining if he found a way to make it happen.
