We heard last week that Amari Cooper was likely to be released by the Dallas Cowboys by the start of the new league year. Then the story changed to the Cowboys trying to trade him before they cut him.
Last night, we learned what they were asking for in return for Cooper and it seemed pretty low. Today, they finally dealt Cooper to the Cleveland Browns and it turns out the actual cost was even lower than we thought. According to Adam Schefter, the Cowboys are trading Cooper to the Browns for just a 5th round pick and a pick swap in the 6th round.
Cowboys are finalizing a trade to send WR Amari Cooper and a sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for a 2022 fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick, per league sources.

The move seems to tell us two things about the Dallas Cowboys right now. They were very desperate to get rid of Amari Cooper’s large cap hit and they must have a lot of faith in both their ability to re-sign Michael Gallup and his ability to replace Amari Cooper once he’s healthy.
This is a big gamble for the Cowboys, who will now be relying on a wide receiver who is currently recovering from a torn ACL to keep their offense functioning at a high level.
For the Browns, this is an absolute steal. They needed a WR1 to play alongside Jarvis Landry and now they’ve landed on basically for free. Cooper will be a great target for Baker Mayfield and the Browns will be hoping he can help Baker elevate this offense that really struggled last season.
