It’s currently the offseason for college football after the Georgia Bulldogs became back-to-back champions.
However, the program is in the news cycle on Thursday after a recent arrest for an incident that took place back in January.
According to ESPN, star linebacker “Jamon Dumas-Johnson was arrested Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of racing on highway/streets and reckless driving.”
The incident in question allegedly took place on January 10, a day after Georgia won the National Championship. From the sounds of it, Dumas-Johnson may have been having a bit too much fun after winning the championship.
Additionally, the University of Georgia issued a statement regarding the arrest, per ESPN.
“We are aware of a report relating to a January 10 incident on College Station Road involving one of our student-athletes. The alleged conduct does not reflect our program’s values or the high standards we have established. As this is an open matter involving a student, we are not able to provide any additional information at this time and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement.”
Reports indicate the Georgia linebacker “was booked into jail at 6:34 p.m. after a warrant was issued for his arrest and then released at 7:15 p.m.”
With that said, we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. The alleged crime is currently a misdemeanor. But Georgia is very clearly still investigating the situation.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson is a standout linebacker for the Bulldogs. He was a finalist for the Butkus Award, which highlights the top linebackers in college football.
For that reason, we should expect Georgia to keep a close eye on Dumas-Johnson moving forward.
