After Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers crashed out of the playoffs many were quick to blame an anemic 10 points from the offense. That took the spotlight away from the real cause of their loss to the 49ers. The real culprit was the special teams.
It was an issue throughout the season, but didn’t truly prove costly until January. They allowed a field goal to be blocked before halftime of that game against the 9ers and gave up a touchdown on a blocked punt late in the game.
Those two moments were massive in a game the Packers only lost by 3 points. Luckily, the Packers have chosen to address the issue. They fired their special teams coordinator last week as a result of the disastrous playoff performance. Today, Ian Rapoport reported who would be taking over the job.
The #Packers are expected to hire former #Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia as their new special teams coach, sources say. The unit was an issue in GB last year, and coach Matt LaFleur goes a long way toward fixing it. Bisaccia is universally respected.

It is pretty unbelievable that the Packers were able to land Rich Bisaccia for this role. Bisaccia is a highly respected coach in the NFL with a ton of experience as a special teams coordinator. He also just accomplished the seemingly impossible as head coach of the Raiders.
He took over a chaotic 3-2 squad that had lost its coach to a scandal, then had a player arrested for a fatal drunk driving incident, and was still able to lead them to a 7-5 record and the franchise’s first playoff berth since 2016.
This is a great move for the Packers and one that will prove a big help as they prepare once again to make a run at the Super Bowl that has eluded them for over a decade.
