Since they traded Davante Adams during the offseason, the Green Bay Packers have been looking for help at wide receiver.
In the pursuit of that help, the Packers turned to Sammy Watkins and a pair of rookies during the offseason.
The Watkins signing didn’t workout and they released him yesterday before their Monday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
It took a little while for the rookies to find their footing, but Christian Watson has become touchdown scoring machine recently and Romeo Doubs put together a solid performance last night.
They’ve gotten pretty consistent play from Allen Lazard throughout the year, but have had to turn to players like Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers at times as they looked for other options Aaron Rodgers could depend on.
Little did they know, they had somebody on their roster all season that could have been helping them out at the position.
Today, head coach Matt LaFleur revealed that Keisean Nixon has been campaigning to play slot receiver for the Packers.
LaFleur says Keisean Nixon has been campaigning to play slot — not slot corner, but slot receiver.

Nixon hasn’t been particularly involved for the Packers defense for most of the season, but has seen his snap count increase over the past 3 weeks and he was in the game for every defensive snap on Monday.
Where he has been very involved is on special teams. Since the Packers let go of Amari Rodgers, Nixon has taken over as the team’s return man and has done well in that role. He has shown off his explosiveness as a returner, racking up 804 yards on returns this season.
Maybe the Green Bay Packers should have given him a chance to show off his abilities in the open field with some designed touches on offense.
