There’s currently no Fumbling the Bag Hall of Fame, but if that theoretical institution existed in real life, there’s little doubt Ja Morant would be inducted on the first ballot.
Morant has had an incredibly tumultuous year defined by a number of off-the-court issues, but things really came to a head back in March when he was suspended after posting a video of himself flashing a gun in a club on Instagram Live.
When everything was said and done, the Grizzlies guard sat out for eight games before making his return to the court—but not before Powerade quietly shelved the ad campaign it was preparing to roll out just days before the man at the center of it landed in hot water.
Nike, on the other hand, opted to stick with the star it signed to a contract in 2019 before releasing the first iteration of his signature shoe (the “Ja 1”) in 2022. However, it seems like he may have burned yet another bridge after failing to learn his lesson.
As you likely know by now, Morant committed an unforced error for the ages earlier this week when he once again pulled out a gun on Instagram, and it’s hard to imagine he’ll be suiting up at the start of the regular season thanks to the lengthy suspension the NBA will undoubtedly be handing out at some point in the near future.
Now, it looks like Nike has also opted to distance itself from the embattled star, as TMZ reports his signature shoe has vanished from the company’s website and app.
That development unfolded just a week before Nike was poised to release the “Hunger” colorway, and it’s worth noting that drop is still listed on the SNKRS app as of this writing.
