Jake Paul Vs Gervonta Davis Will Be An Exhibition Fight Due To Massive Weight Difference Explains Florida Commission

Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis will be an exhibition fight.

Last month, Paul announced that he would be fighting the much smaller Davis at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

The fight has since been moved after Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), blasted the fight as a money grab and voiced his opposition to the fight taking place in Georgia.

“This is the dumbest (expletive) I’ve ever heard. It’s a money grabber, and I’m not OK with that.’’

The fight has since been moved to Miami, and the Florida commission says they will sanction the fight as an exhibition, and not a pro fight, due to the massive weight difference.

“You can’t do a fight like that as a pro fight,’ Timothy Shipman, executive director of the Florida Athletic Commission, told USA TODAY Sports. “It’ll be an exhibition fight.”

“I’m looking at the details right now,’’ Shipman said. “I mean, it’s happening pretty fast. But I am sure there will be other stipulations because you can’t do it with the same requirements”

As of now, it’s unclear how much Paul will be allowed to weigh in his fight against Davis, who has fought most of his career under 140 pounds.

“We’re still figuring that out,’’ said MVP’s Nikasa Bidarian. “Jake will definitely have to come down below his 200-pound weight that he’s been fighting at. I can tell you that we’re going to have a fight that will have a definitive outcome, whether by way of knockout or decision.”
