It’s been real, Jalen Brunson.

The New York Knicks All-Star point guard posted a joking goodbye message to Twitter this week after he accidentally butt-dialed his head coach Tom Thibodeau while hanging out with his friends.

“Just butt dialed Thibs while having a conversation with the fellas. Yeah it’s over yall it’s been real,” Brunson tweeted on Thursday, July 11.

Earlier this week, Boston Celtics guard Derrick White replaced Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard on the Team USA basketball roster that’s headed to Paris for the Olympics this month.

While a majority of the discussion since has been about Celtics forward and NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown being snubbed from the team — Brown even seemed to suggest that the fact he’s not a Nike-sponsored athlete factored into the decision — Brunson’s snub is arguably even more surprising given that the 27-year-old point guard averaged a whopping 32.4 points per game last season and was one of the most dangerous and effective players in the NBA.

After finishing second in the Eastern Conference last season with a record of 50-32, the Knicks are looking to make the leap into true title contender status this season following the acquisition of Mikal Bridges, another former Villanova player, from the Nets. The Knicks line-up now consists of four former Nova stars: Brunson, Bridges, Josh Hart, and Dante DiVincenzo.

Heading into the 2024-25 season, the Boston Celtics are the current betting favorites to repeat as NBA champions with odds of around +300. The Knicks do find themselves in the top five betting favorites, however, with odds in the neighborhood of +900 (in between the Celtics and Knicks are the Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, and Philadelphia 76ers).
