Victor Wembanyama has already lived up to the hype that surrounded him in the year leading up to his NBA debut. It’s hard to not be in awe of the physique of a guy who’s poised to turn the league on his head, and even his fellow players are having trouble not being shocked by his size based on Jalen Pickett’s reaction to his hands.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Victor Wembanyama, but based on what we’ve seen so far, he’s more than on track to live up to the “Generational Talent” label that was bestowed upon him before he was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
The man known as “Wemby” is an absolute freak of nature (a term I use in the most complimentary manner possible), as he routinely pulls off plays a guy who stands at 7’4″ seemingly has no business attempting in the first place while regularly doing the things expected of someone that size.
Teams across the league are getting their first look at Wembanyama, and on Sunday, the Nuggets faced off against him for the first time in a game where Denver walked away with a 132-120 victory (the San Antonio big man posted 22 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals in the losing effort).
Prior to the game, Wembanyama introduced himself to some of his opponents—including Nuggets rookie Jalen Pickett, who seemed fixated on the 19-year-old Frenchman’s mitts after shaking hands with him before tipoff.
Jalen Pickett can't believe how big Wemby's hands are 😂

Wembanyama also made quite the impression on a slightly more notable member of that Denver squad, as two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic stated “He’s going to change the game” after the showdown while advising his fellow players and the rest of the world to “enjoy and watch the show.”
That’s some very high praise from a man who knows a thing or two about basketball.
