The Arizona State women’s basketball program hired former Grand Canyon head coach Molly Miller to run its program next season. Miller experienced incredible success at her last stop.
She’s already received approval from one of the Sun Devils’ top NIL donors. James Harden shouted the coach out on social media shortly after news of her hire went public.
Miller led the ‘Lopes to their first NCAA Tournament in school history this year. Grand Canyon finished the season at 32-3 to earn a trip to the Big Dance.
While prepping for March Madness, speculation swirled about her future. She was reportedly Arizona State’s top target after it fired Natasha Adair. She initially brushed off those rumors while keeping the focus on her team.

The Antelopes’ historic season ended in the opening round with a 13-point loss to Baylor. The Sun Devils landed their top target soon thereafter.

That’s a good sign for Miller’s future on the recruiting trail. Harden’s been one of the school’s top NIL donors when it comes to basketball.
He reportedly dropped a small fortune to help the men’s team land five-star recruit Jayden Quaintance, though that investment didn’t pay initial dividends. Harden hasn’t let it deter him in cutting checks for his alma mater.
“NIL nowadays is the most important thing because kids want to be compensated for their play and their work, which makes sense. I wanted to be a part of helping the team and the school get players… If NIL is the problem, then I can help with that.”
-James Harden
He’s opened his wallet up to Bobby Hurley and the men’s team. Maybe Molly Miller will see similar generosity in terms of an NIL bankroll with James Harden’s support.
Miller’s proven to be a winner, posting a 117-38 record with Grand Canyon over five seasons. She’ll now look to continue that success with a step up in competition.
Arizona State’s women’s basketball program has struggled as of late. The Sun Devils just wrapped up their fifth straight season at .500 or worse.
Miller is looking to turn those misfortunes around. She could have Harden’s help in doing so.
