Look, I think every single football fan respects the hell out of Jay Glazer. Unlike other analysts who come across as annoying AF and just report the same old shit everyone else does, the FOX Sports reporter tends to tell fans the cold-hard facts, with his “sources” often carrying more validity than someone else’s. In other words, Glazer doesn’t just feed bullshit, and, when he says something, it very much has legs to it — like when he first reported on Odell Beckham Jr. last year telling opponents to “come get me” during games.
But, like all of us, Jay Glazer has his hiccups and isn’t perfect. And while he’s usually spot on with his reporting and avoids the sensationalist headline just for the sake of a read, he did go that route the other day when he tweeted about some big news he was about to announce on the TV show FOX Football Now, which many fans thought would be a wild trade, a report about those Rob Gronkowski rumors or something that related to the NFL Draft.
The news I have tonight is not transactional news, not a player getting traded or signed. Woke up to seeing y’all going ape-you-know-what guessing what it is. It’s not what you think. Fox Football Now tonight 11 ET/ 8 PT after race

Instead of something that was groundbreaking, we got this: A backup center for the Los Angeles Rams, Brian Allen, became the first NFL player who publicly tested positive for the coronavirus.

What?!? That’s what we all sat on pins and needles for, Jay Glazer? While everyone’s wishing Allen a speedy recovery and hoping it doesn’t turn into anything serious, football fans were pissed. People on Twitter didn’t hold back when it came to calling out and taking shots at the reporter.
100%. He used his platform to amass cheap views and clicks. Extremely irresponsible and not taking into consideration that of Brian Allen, the Rams and Brian Allen's family.

Given the fallout and all the reactions, Glazer figured he’d do what most people do when something like this happens: He’d address it head on and explain his side of the story. That’s always a great PR move, right? You quash rumors and try to get back into the good graces of the haters.
Appearing as a guest on the Rich Eisen Show Thursday morning, Jay Glazer did try to explain himself and talked about the hype surrounding his “big news” the other day. The problem? It was awful, and pretty much fell on deaf ears.

Per NESN:
“The guys (at FOX Sports Radio) are joking around and I was like ‘No, guys. I have something serious tomorrow. I have some serious national news, gonna break it,’ ” Glazer said. “I’m just trying to get them not to laugh because they don’t know what it is. So I’m like, ‘No, I’m serious. There’s real national news tomorrow.’ Well, they just took that part and put it out there. I go to sleep and I wake up yesterday morning, literally 200 texts, all 32 teams, owners, players, ex-players, coaches, wives — ‘What’s your big news?’ I’m like, ‘What the hell are you people talking about?
Glazer continued: “People are calling like, ‘What’s the news? What’s the news?’ So then I see people like an ESPN Milwaukee Twitter poll question, ‘What is Jay Glazer’s breaking news?’ So I even tweeted out, ‘No, folks. It’s not what you think. It’s not transactional news. It’s not a trade or a player signing somewhere.’ But it just got ignored, right?”
Many wondered why Glazer didn’t immediately put out the news once he started to catch heat. Well, it’s because he couldn’t, as Glazer and Allen already had filmed a television segment in which they talked about the news.
“We filmed the show the day before,” Glazer said. “I talked to Brian Allen about it. Told him what I wanted to do, so he agreed to do this for me for a show. That’s what we talked about. Not me tweeting out his news. So OK, no problem. I was gonna have Sean McVay on, I already had him scheduled and that was just ironic. So Brian was good with that. So I can’t put it out there, like, he and I agreed I’m putting it on this show.”
…
“I wish that original tweet didn’t go out,” Glazer said. “I apologize about that tweet. I was trying to get people to understand the seriousness of it, but then it just took on a life of its own, man. Again, I don’t work for Twitter, I work for FOX. So I had to wait for my show to come out.”
Given Jay Glazer’s explanation and his reasoning, football fans on Twitter once again weren’t too pleased, as many voiced how pissed off they were about both the original hype around the Brian Allen news, and then the reporter’s excuse for playing up to that anticipation.

It was tasteless and this interview was even more tasteless.

Hey, can’t win ’em all, Jay, so here’s to hoping the dude doesn’t fall into the trap of doing shit like this from now on, because, as mentioned earlier, plenty of football fans respect this guy for being different than everybody else, so maybe this was just a brain fart that he can blame on the slow news cycle right now.
