Former Browns Safety Jermaine Whitehead Apologized For Threatening To Kill A Fan And Calling Media Member A ‘Cracker’

Following Sunday’s embarassing 24-19 loss to the Denver Broncos and a quarterback making his first appearance in an NFL game in Brandon Allen, Cleveland Browns safety Jermaine Whitehead went off the rails on Twitter, getting his account suspended for threatening to kill a fan and calling a member of the media a “cracker.”

By Monday morning, after releasing a statement Sunday night, the 26-year old Whitehead had been cut by the Browns

Whitehead, who had started every game so far this season for the 2-6 Browns, took to his not suspended Instagram account on Tuesday to apologize for his actions.

“I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for my actions following our game with Denver. That was totally out of character for me. I do not justify my actions, but was extremely frustrated with the way I had played and our team losing because of it. I was playing with a broken hand, but that is no excuse for my actions, and I am deeply regretful,” wrote Whitehead.

“I want to personally apologize to anyone who I offended, especially those who I was responsive to on Twitter. My choice of words did not reflect who I am, but only what I was feeling. Also, my sincerest apologies to my teammates, coaches, the Browns organization and most of all, the fans and kids that motivate me to even pursue this dream.

“Again I am deeply sorry for my unacceptable behavior, and I wish the Browns the best of luck in the future. I love you!”

Amazing how suddenly losing out on almost $40,000 a week in pay will make a guy change his tune, huh?

Eh, once he clears waivers Tuesday some other NFL team will most certainly pick him up and plug him right into their defense. He did apologize after all, so it’s all good, right?
