Despite the fact that it’s now been almost two weeks since Aaron Rodgers’ since-ending injury, it seems as though those within the New York Jets organization are still trying to wrap their heads around what happened.
Given the nature of the injury, Jets fans have naturally been looking for someone to blame, with some pointing to offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett calling cut blocks despite the fact that Rodgers reportedly doesn’t like them.
Jets offensive line coach Keith Carter, however, says it’s not Hackett and put the responsibility on his shoulders.
“It’s certainly not Hackett,” Carter said, adding that “all the coaches on the offensive staff have done ‘a bunch of’ cut blocking in the past,” via NJ.com. “That’s an unfortunate injury that just kills me. It’s certainly not Duane’s fault. It’s my fault.”
“We ask them to do that and we’ve cut in the past. And it unfortunately unfolded that way, and I feel terrible for Duane and for obviously Aaron. But that’s something, from a schematic standpoint, we always like mixing those in because these freaking rushers are good. And we try to slow them down any way we can.”
While the Jets were able to circle the wagons to beat the Buffalo Bills on opening night despite Rodgers’ injury, they got blown out last weekend when they went to Dallas to take on the Cowboys.
Life for Zach Wilson and the rest of Gang Green doesn’t get any easier this weekend and they’ll be taking on Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots, who have absolutely dominated Wilson the previous four times they’ve faced him.
While many initially thought that Rodgers would consider retiring following his Achilles tear, the 39-year-old future Hall of Famer has since unequivocally confirmed his intentions to rehab and return to the Jets.
In fact, Rodgers even suggested that his radical rehab plan could have him healthy for the playoffs if the Jets somehow make it.
