It has not been a good month to be one of Michael Porter Jr.’s brothers, and it’s somehow gotten worse courtesy of Jevon Porter, the Loyola Marymount forward who has been hit with a DWI charge in Missouri.
Denver Nuggets big man Michael Porter Jr. has largely managed to stay out of trouble over the course of his career, but the same can’t be said for some other members of his family.
Jontay Porter was initially able to follow in his older brother’s footsteps by making it to the NBA, but his time in the league came to a pretty shocking end last month when he was hit with a lifetime ban in the wake of an investigation that determined he’d bet on his own team to lose and leaked inside information to bettors who attempted to use it to their advantage.
The news came out just a couple of days before Coban Porter (who played basketball at the University of Denver) was sentenced to six years in prison for drunkenly causing a car crash in 2023 that claimed the life of the driver of the vehicle he collided with and seriously injured a passenger.
That second incident was the textbook definition of a cautionary tale, but it doesn’t sound like his younger brother got the message.
According to KRCG, Jevon Porter—who played forward at Pepperdine last season before transferring to Loyola Marymount last month—was pulled over for speeding in Boone County, Missouri (where he and the rest of his family were raised) around 1:30 A.M. on Saturday before being arrested and hit with a DWI charge.
Michael recently admitted he’s been trying to “compartmentalize” the issues his family members have been dealing with as the Nuggets continue to compete in the playoffs, and it seems like he’s doing a pretty good job handling the situation when you consider he averaged 22.8 points during the team’s series with the Lakers.
If you’re curious, there is a fifth Porter brother (Izaak) who has managed to keep his nose clean so far, and here’s to hoping that continues to be the case.
