Sometimes nature calls during unfortunate moments, which is something Joe Buck knows all too well.
On the latest episode of the ‘SmartLess’ podcast, Buck shared a story about the one time he urinated while simultaneously calling an NFL touchdown live on-air. This all went down during the 1994 season while he was calling a Packers-Falcons game at Milwaukee County Stadium.
The thing is, he didn’t immediately seek out a bottle to pee in. Apparently, he saw a trash can, started peeing in that, then someone graciously handed him a bottle.
“I have peed in a bottle while calling an NFL touchdown, I swear to god,” Buck said. “I was peeing in a trash can and they handed me a little water bottle. … We came back from a break and I was peeing and the action started. And I called a touchdown while urine was coming out of me.”
It’s understandable why Buck didn’t run to the bathroom during a TV timeout. Who knows, maybe the bathroom was a long walk from the booth and if he went, he would’ve missed some of the action. Missing out on a touchdown and not being able to make that call is the biggest of no-no’s in the business, so he made a judgment call.
Did we need to know this story about Buck peeing in a bottle? Absolutely not, who knows why he told it, but now you know that Joe Buck once peed while calling a touchdown.
