Joe Burrow will be the first name called at the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals unless of course, the franchise wants to continue their losing ways by trading the pick or taking somebody else.
Cincinnati finished the year at 2-14 and, without question, looked like the worst team in the NFL throughout the year. The Bengals will be awarded with Burrow fresh off of one of the most dominant seasons in college football history, but nevertheless, it’s going to take a lot for Cincinnati to turn things around.
As for the challenge ahead for Burrow, his father joined TSN 690 in Montreal and said his son is excited to possibly go No. 1 in the NFL Draft and believes he can help get the Bengals back to their winning ways.
“He’s excited to be in that conversation and if the Bengals do draft him, he’s going to be happy. He’ll look at it as a challenge. But he’ll be confident that eventually they can win a lot of games there in Cincinnati.”
It’s the sort of quote that you’d expect from the father of the soon to be top draft pick, but then again, it’s pretty clear he’s not going to pull an Archie/Eli Manning sort of move at the NFL Draft and whine about what team actually picks him. Burrow’s dad using the word ‘eventually’ is relevant, too, because it likely isn’t all going to go as planned as far as winning goes right from the jump.
Burrow sounds like a quarterback that is going to welcome the challenge of turning around a franchise and if he has anywhere close to the year he just put together at LSU, it’s not going to take long for the Bengals to start winning football games.
