When it comes to the quarterback position, Tom Brady is the greatest of all-time. There is simply no debate.
Thus, as younger football players try to make their way to the NFL, it is safe to say that every single one of them wants to be like Brady. Whether he is their favorite quarterback or not is one thing, but to be like Brady is to be the best ever.
Joe Burrow is no exception.
The 25-year-old, second-year Bengals quarterback also wants to be like the seven-time Super Bowl champion. However, it was not the rings that made him want to emulate Brady.
Burrow joined Brady’s ‘Let’s Go’ Podcast and spoke about the one moment that inspired him. It came in 2001.
During a game against the Bills, the young Patriots quarterback rolled to his right and tried to take off running for a long first down. Instead, he was met by a vicious hit from Buffalo cornerback Nate Clements.

The hit was so brutal that Brady’s helmet went flying. However, despite the bone-rattling shot, Brady did not fumble and he popped up right away.
Burrow loved that.
Here is what he said to Brady about that moment:
“To kind of take it back on that toughness that Tom was talking about,” Burrow said. “My earliest memory of something like that from a quarterback is, Tom, I think you were playing the Bills maybe or the Titans. You were running to the right and you slid, and somebody just knocked your head off. The helmet goes flying…
You got up so fast, and I saw that and I was like, ‘I want to be like that. I want to do that.’ I forget how old I was. I was probably in middle school at this point, but I just remember that vividly and trying to model myself after that.”
In fact, Burrow has emulated Brady once already in his career. The legend of Joe Burrow was born during the Fiesta Bowl in 2018.
Playing against UCF, the LSU quarterback took a nasty hit. From that point forward, he never lost a game in college again.

Burrow spoke about the hit after the game. He, like Brady in 2001, would not have stayed down on the field, but he had the wind knocked out of him and he could not get up.
Now he will have the chance to emulate Brady’s success by beating the Rams in Super Bowl LVI.
