I don’t think there are many photos in existence where John Daly isn’t the most ridiculously dressed person in the picture, but one rare exception is the one above where Kid Rock’s American flag pants put the golfer to shame (although the caddy might actually be rocking the most absurd outfit out of all of them). However, if you’re like me, you might be wondering what series of events resulted in the artfully trashy musician responsible for one of the lone highlights of Woodstock ’99 becoming an avid golfer.
In a story that couldn’t be more perfect, it turns out the man born Robert James Ritchie was inspired by his golf equivalent: Daly himself.
Daly spoke with For The Win’s Nina Mandell last month and explained how he convinced an initially skeptical Mr. Rock to hit the links by reminding him the rules of golf don’t prevent you from crushing beers and ripping cigs (pastimes as sacred to Daly as parking an RV in a Hooter’s parking lot during the Masters) while walking the course:
“I used to stay at Kid Rock’s house when we played at Warwick Hills — and he said ‘I’ll never play golf.’ And [muscian] Jamey Johnson said ‘I’ll never chase that ball around.’ And I said well there’s certain things you can do on a golf course and you might like to do and entertain yourself and have fun with your buddies.”
Thanks to daily, Kid Rock had the chance to nail a 40-foot putt while playing alongside Jack Nicklaus at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf Celebrity Shootout over the weekend— a chance he didn’t miss.
Call him Bob Ritchie or @KidRock, but he’s always rock solid when it comes to entertainment! What a putt at the @BassProLegends! @markwahlberg @ChampionsTour @BigCedarLodge BigCedarLodge #TopOfTheRock pic.twitter.com/g1VgewGRox
