There is a problem in North Carolina. New head coach Bill Belichick is off to a disappointing 2-2 start after the Tar Heels got soundly beaten by the University of Central Florida 34-9 on Saturday. But his struggles on the football field thus far are only part of the story.
Not only are they a bad football team, Bill Belichick’s 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson keeps doing things and appearing in places that almost no other coach’s wives or girlfriends do. For example, on Saturday, Hudson was on the sideline with Belichick prior to Saturday’s game, chatting with multiple coaches on the team.
While her actions aren’t a violation of any rules, they are, without much of a doubt, a major distraction from where the focus should be at North Carolina: on football. These types of distractions are a problem, as 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel pointed out after North Carolina’s loss on the Nightcap podcast with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson.
Johnny Manziel doesn’t understand why Jordon Hudson feels the need to be such a presence within the UNC football program
“The girlfriend stuff, you don’t see it anywhere else in college football,” Manziel said. “The media has definitely jumped on it and made it a big thing, maybe even bigger than it is. But to be walking around the field in warm-ups and this and that, and the cameras when you know it’s happening and you know it’s causing a stir, when you know you’re going to go into a press conference and get asked about it and all this stuff that comes along with it.
“It almost gets to the point like why the f— would you do it? Like, why? You know you’re just adding more scrutiny and more things to the pot. Like, honey, sit in the suite. Baby girl, I’ll see you after the game. What what are we talking about? It’s obviously a problem. It’s obviously an issue. People look at it, and they’re talking about it every single week. Doesn’t make sense to me, and it’s so un-Belichick.”
Shannon Sharpe then went on to add something that many people have said since he (and Jordon Hudson) took over in North Carolina. “He would always tell you guys distractions. This is a distraction for his football team. Now, he would say, ‘Let’s limit the distractions. Let’s make sure it’s about football.’ Now, people are talking about things that are not football-related. So the biggest distraction created at in at the University of Chapel Hill is Bill Belichick and his extracurricular act.”
“I agree. It’s odd,” Manziel replied. “It doesn’t coincide with everything that he’s been about about football throughout the entire entirety of his whole career. I would think that somebody within the higher ups of North Carolina kind of be like, ‘What what what exactly is this? What what are we doing here?’ Because if
she’s sitting there drawing some plays in the dirt and breaking down film and trying to get us some gameplay stuff, then so be it. We’ll take that wherever we can get it. We’ll take it from the janitor. We’ll take it from anybody we can get it throughout the organization. But that’s not what this is.”
