Western New Yorkers are proud of where they come from, and are especially proud of the city of Buffalo and the Buffalo Bills. The Bills are truly ingrained into the fabric of society on the shores of Lake Erie.
But, Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith does not have those same warm and fuzzy feelings towards Buffalo. In fact, he despises the city, as evidenced by recent comments.
Jonnu Smith signed with the Miami Dolphins this offseason after spending last season with the Atlanta Falcons. Before that, though he spent two years with the New England Patriots, a Bills and Dolphins in-division rival. That meant annual trips to Buffalo, and they are not big fans of the New England Patriots, to say the least.
Recently, Jonnu Smith was a guest on a new Dolphins fan podcast, The Dive Bar Podcast, and he absolutely went in on the city

“That’s why the fans be hating so much because they want to be down here,” “You ever went to Buffalo? Oh, my gosh, man. I don’t know how those dudes do it. I don’t know how they did it. I don’t know how they did it, man. Going from anywhere in the country, man, and going to Buffalo. It got to be the worst place you could be… And the Buffalo wings ain’t even good, They ain’t even good,” he said.
I get that the weather in Buffalo is not exactly as good as it is in Miami. There’s probably less to do in terms of entertainment options and great restaurants than a lot of NFL cities. But, a ton of players seem to love playing in Buffalo due to the undying loyalty of the fans and the way they’re treated in the city.
And, taking a shot at buffalo wings is a step too far. Not only did the city invent the hot wing, but they’ve perfected it. An average wing in Buffalo is better than the best wing in many cities.
In his seven-year career, during which his first four years were spent with the Titans, Smith has 2428 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns, Those are fine numbers, I guess, but maybe he should be less concerned about the city of Buffalo and more concerned about getting open.
The Dolphins travel to Buffalo in Week 9. The crowd there is already raucous week-to-week, but I assume these comments will only throw fuel on the fire.
